week 7 Santos match preview

By: j | August 29th, 2008

I’m not sure who came up with the “brilliant” idea of two matches within seventy-two hours in the hot Mexican summer. However that said, this will be a stunning attacking match that you won’t want to miss.

The real celebration for Monterrey comes when the transfer window closes and we can be assured Humberto Suazo is with the club. Without him the offensive current goes to a trickle. This past weekend, albeit a much weaker club, the Rayados defensive played their best match of the weekend. To leave with points today, Monterrey will need Jesús Arellano, Luis Pérez, Severo Meza and William Paredes to cast a defensive net or Matías Vuoso and Christian Benítez will make them pay dearly.

Of course the real story of this match is of teacher and student. The genius of Ricardo Lavolpe and Santos Daniel Guzmán. While fatigue is likely to be a concern, you can count on this match being a highly aggressive counter-attacking lesson for coaches and tacticians. Oswaldo Sánchez will unfortunately miss the match for Santos but other than his notable absence both squads are healthy.

This will be without question the headline match of the day. I will report on it once it concludes.
