week 5 preview Cruz Azul
By: j | August 23rd, 2008Week five has the Rayados in desperate need of stability as they visit a tough Cruz Azul squad, who have title aspirations. Monterrey’s efforts will be severely hampered with the loss Felipe Baloy and Diego Ordaz who were red-carded last week in a embarrassing childish out-burst and Ricardo Lavolpe, serving the second of his four match ban.
This is a must win for Monterrey who has seen their early season promise crumble and fade away. Without a solid, pride-fueled performance and based upon last weeks meltdown, what could happen to the club is anyone’s guess. However the already challenged defense is at a massive disadvantage without Baloy and Ordaz and la maquina celeste must be chomping at the bit ready to attack. The table is set for Pablo Zeballos and César Villaluz to have career days and Monterrey must be clear, the hosts will be on the attack and rarely lose at home.
With the loss of Baloy and Ordaz, Monterrey’s will put their trust in Pierre Ibarra and the very promising Severo Meza with José Basanta to push the counter forward. While this is slightly out of context of today’s match, after the veteran’s foolish behavior that is likely to cost the squad three points at a crucial junction, adequate service by Pierre and Severo today should be rewarded with the starting lineup for an extended period. What Monterrey needs now is leadership and Jesús Arellano will need to assert his role, steady emotions as well as control the ball more. The attacking trident of Carlos Ochoa, Humberto Suazo and Jared Borgetti will need to be at their absolute best in this very challenging moment for the Rayados.
I will report on the match at its conclusion.
