the line of defense
By: j | July 23rd, 2008
With a date with Puebla only days away the season is ready to unfurl. The headlines will likely tell the story again of striking duo of Humberto Suazo and Jared Borgetti but the real story is likely the emergence of a very solid back-line of defense.
The new combination of Joel González, Felipe Baloy, Diego Ordaz and José Basanta is an enormous change. The inclusion of José Basanta from Estudiantes, who Richardo Lavolpe scouted while at Vélez Sársfield and Boca Juniors has had a profound effect on the team and will allow the team to vary its tactical formations extensively and create further counter-attacking options.
In the opening match of the campaign I am expecting the club to come out in a 4-4-2 but we will see use of the 3-5-2 and further experiments with the 3-4-3 and 3-4-1-2. Pay careful attention to this as we’re sitting down to these weekends match as it is a key structural change.
