review of Ciudad Juárez match
By: j | August 2nd, 2008It may have taken an extra week but todays 2-0 victory Ciudad Juárez match was precisely what the squad needed. The first half quickly established that the work this week had not been in vain and this was a substantially different squad than last week. While there were a few defensive lapses, for the most part the backline shored up their weaknesses. The counter-attack, so much a part of Mr. Lavolpe’s system, moved well into position and created numerous scoring opportunities. Finishing is still lacking but possession and control of the flow of the match is all Monterrey.
The scoring started on a beautiful goal from Carlos Ochoa, set-up from a nice flick pass by Octavio Valdéz at the thirty-sixth minute. From the top of the box, with a defender on his inside right, he dragged the ball back with his right foot and struck a beautiful shot to the back of the net with this left. The second goal of the match was an own-goal off Gilberto Eric MartÃnez at the sixty-fourth minute that came via a brilliant combination from Humberto Suazo and José González. With this very solid outing behind them the Rayados face other key match next week, this against Chivas who lost yesterday to the Tecos. Of particular note new addition Gonzalo Gabriel Choy González continues prove his worth again, entering for Jared Borgetti at the fifty-fifth minute and creating numerous opportunities. It is very earlier in the campaign to suggest this but if this continues, you can expect him to emerge as a classic enganche in the attack.
