Although playing a man down for half of the match, the VÃctor Manuel Vucetich era began with a thunderous 4-0 destruction of Puebla. While the scoreline is deceiving as the final three goals came in the last fifteen minutes of the match, it was a tremendous result for the Rayados.
The match started with a moment of silence for Dr Carlos Canseco, one of the clubs founders. However it barely took at minute for the Estadio Tecnológico to rise in support as Alejandro Acosta’s clearance was intercepted by Humberto Suazo who then provided Osvaldo David MartÃnez the perfect opening to give Monterrey the 1-0 lead. The Rayados continued to pressure but were not able to bring through a stingy Puebla back line. However just before the break Juan Carlos Medina received his second yellow and Monterrey was forced to play a man down. Following the break, VÃctor Manuel Vucetich brought in Severo Meza for Aldo De Nigris as Monterrey strengthened its back-line. Puebla started to assert itself but with fourteen minutes remaining Octavio Valdez played the ball through to Humberto Suazo who thundered the ball into the net. Luis Alonso Sandoval who entered for Chupete just after his goal, added one of his own with eleven minutes remaining to bring the match to 3-0. After Luis Alonso Sandoval was pulled down in the area with three minutes left and a penalty adjudged, Luis Ernesto Pérez converted from the spot to bring the match to a 4-0 conclusion.
Monterrey returns to action next Sunday against Indios de Ciudad Juárez.
