game on!!!
By: j | May 22nd, 2008I’ve been waiting for this match the moment it was decided Monterrey was facing Santos (other than this is basically Carta Blanca / Bohemia vs Corona). Santos handled the Rayados easily in the eighth week with a 2-0 victory. However in the weeks following that match Monterrey went through drastic changes and began to adapt to Richardo Lavolpe’s system and emerging as a completely different squad.
The big word around camp is “respect” and between the lines, the idea of redemption and even recognition for Lavolpe as one of the best tacticians the league has ever seen, is apparent. Something has to be said of how the timing of the search for the new El Tri coach (Sven?) and Monterrey’s ascendancy as well.
On the injury front, Santos defender Fernando Ortiz is still undecided until a pre-match fitness test. For Monterrey, Jesús Arellano who had a throat infection is apparently fine and will start. His input is crucial as Monterrey must shore up its defense and Jonathan Orozco must have a solid performance. The last match, which had four goals let-in, cannot be repeated if Monterrey is to advance. Of course the most important news is that Humberto Suazo’s thigh injury is healed and he’ll be ready to go.
