final word on Indios de Ciudad Juárez match

By: j | August 2nd, 2008

Only a few hours now till the start of the match at the Tecnológico, in what is already turning out to be a crucial encounter. After stumbling and bumbling to a draw against Puebla, the Rayados can’t afford to let points from matches they should win drift away. The Indios are not going to play it safe Manager Sergio Orduña has stated they will be on the attack. A win is desparately needed if Monterrey is stay within reach of Tecos and Atlas who got off to a thunderous start.

The Puebla mis-fire was due to a number of flaws, most notably a dismal defensive display and team dealing with fitness issues, although given the mid-day start in the heat of a summer, fatigue is somewhat understandable. With the defensive lapses I lay blame on the organization who had the team on a goodwill mission in the pre-season as opposed to training. I might be beating the issue to death but if this is to be a championship team, their world-class coach needs to be able to develop the squad in proper conditions and that means no fun-in-the-sun training sessions on the beach and not wandering through a friendly list as foreign dignitaries. Ricardo Lavolpe has dedicated the week dealing with this and hopefully it is enough time because the season is no time to be shoring up work that should have been taken care of in the pre-season. With two points now thrown away, the club needs to get back on track and todays home match, with a very vocal crowd, is just what they need.

What we’ll see today, or at least the objective, is a very attacking approach of Ricardo Lavolpe’s where the wheel of attack stems from what really is a 3-4-3, with Chupete, Jared Borgetti and Carlos Ochoa. The emergence of José Basanta will continue but fans should pay careful attention to Gonzalo Choy, whether from the start or coming into the match as he could develop into one of the clubs top playmakers.

I will provide a post match summary.
