Chivas will have something to prove
By: j | August 3rd, 2008Week 3 of the season is a going to be a telling challenge as Monterrey faces Chivas, who after only two matches are five points behind the Tecos who lead Group 2.
Chivas lost on Friday to the Tecos 1-0 even though they had one man advantage from the twenty-eight minute after Joel Sánchez was sent off. In an interesting twist of fate, on-loan from Monterrey, Robert de Pinho along with Rodrigo RuÃz created numerous problems for the Chivas back-line and based upon the play, you would have never guessed Chivas had a man advantage. With the match slowing and appearing like it was heading to a nil draw, Chivas hacked-up the ball in their own end and Daniel Alcántar quickly capitalized with a goal strike and gave the Tecos the victory.
Chivas’ busy schedule is obviously weighing on them as they were very leg heavy and consistently out-run for balls. Mental errors are running high in very uncharacteristic “Chivas” play. Of course while noting they are obviously fatigued, after the match on Friday they left for Chicago and a high-profile friendly with Barcelona. That aside, sitting in the bottom of the group Chivas will have a lot to prove and I expect a rejuvenated squad at Estadio Jalisco.
