Monterrey v Chivas match preview

By: j | Comments No Comments

Of the many matches in the year, Chivas‘ visit of the Tecnológico is one of the highlights in the Primera División de México for myself. The great Guadalajara based side, led by Efraín Flores, is in the midst of a resurgence of sorts, where talented Mexican internationals return “home” after playing abroad. While only the [...]

Indios de Ciudad Juárez holds Monterrey to 1-1 draw

By: j | Comments 1 Comment

After a surprising 4-0 victory over Puebla in the first week of the new season, Monterrey met a tough Indios de Ciudad Juárez side who fought to a 1-1 draw. The Rayados under Víctor Manuel Vucetich are without a doubt a more defensive based unit and scoring opportunities were rare on both ends of the [...]

The start of the new season went on perfect for both sides as Víctor Manuel Vucetich’s reign in-charge of the Rayados a resounding 4-0 victory over Puebla. Monterrey’s visit of Juárez to face the Indios after Héctor Hugo Eugui’s side defeated Tecos 2-1 last week and looking to avenge their 2-0 loss to Monterrey this [...]

Monterrey starts with powerful 4-0 victory

By: j | Comments No Comments

Although playing a man down for half of the match, the Víctor Manuel Vucetich era began with a thunderous 4-0 destruction of Puebla. While the scoreline is deceiving as the final three goals came in the last fifteen minutes of the match, it was a tremendous result for the Rayados.
The match started with a [...]

Monterrey v Puebla match preview

By: j | Comments No Comments

The Víctor Manuel Vucetich era begins today in earnest as Monterrey face Puebla in the opening match of Clausura 2009. Following the deplorable Apertura campaign, which saw the Rayados fall to within three points of the bottom of the combined table, management decided to make a number of changes bringing in Osvaldo Martínez, Juan Carlos [...]

Rayados defeat San Luis 1-0 in lifeless friendly

By: j | Comments 1 Comment

With Víctor Manuel Vucetich in charge for Monterrey for the first time, they defeated San Luis in a friendly best described of being played at lukewarm intensity. The new manager had little impact on the affair as he has yet to operate a practice and it certainly showed in the general kick-around / cure for [...]

Walter Ayoví deal done

By: j | Comments No Comments

On the heels of Ricardo La Volpe’s departure from the Rayados, the deal to bring El Nacional’s Walter Ayoví to Monterrey is complete. The twenty-nine year old Ecuador capped midfielder / winger will come on a one year loan with an option to purchase and will provide a significant upgrade to the Monterrey attack.

Ricardo La Volpe and Rayados part ways

By: j | Comments No Comments

In what is possibly the worst piece of news I could give Rayados supporters, Ricardo La Volpe and Monterrey have parted ways.
With his contract set to expire on January 10, an agreement was thought to be close but at the last minute the situation derailed and Monterrey lost a great leader.
In a simply worded statement [...]

could Walter Ayoví be coming to the Rayados

By: j | Comments No Comments

I posting this, I want to be very clear that this is merely a rumour and has not been confirmed by Monterrey.
A variety of media reports are suggesting that midfielder / winger Walter Ayoví is headed from rom Quito, Ecuador’s El Nacional to the Rayados. The twenty-nine year old Ecuador international is a superb talent [...]
