a defensive lapse

By: j | Comments No Comments

Depending on who you were cheering for, the Santos – Monterrey match was either a triumphant comeback or a heart-breaking conclusion to a triumphant season.
With roughly fifteen minutes left in the match, Monterrey’s fortunes looked good. After losing Felipe Baloy early in the match with an injury, the defense was looking suspect but held Santos [...]

On the bright side…

By: j | Comments No Comments

The 1-1 draw last night came with a few hidden surprises and hopefully something we can draw upon in the second leg this Sunday at Estadio Corona in Torreón.
On the positive side, with Severo Meza being sent off with his second yellow card eighteen minutes into the match, Monterry showed rare stellar defensive abilities, playing [...]

game on!!!

By: j | Comments No Comments

I’ve been waiting for this match the moment it was decided Monterrey was facing Santos (other than this is basically Carta Blanca / Bohemia vs Corona). Santos handled the Rayados easily in the eighth week with a 2-0 victory. However in the weeks following that match Monterrey went through drastic changes and began to adapt [...]

If you haven’t heard yet, the semi-final matches are set and we’re to face Santos next! The first match is at home this Thursday night with the second-leg Sunday.
I will post a preview of the match after reviewing the injury situation, particularly with Humberto Suazo, later today.

at the half

just wanted to give a quick update at the half because it’s been a wild opening.
Chivas has been pressuring and opened the scoring at the fortieth minute with Omar Bravo goal. Over the next fifteen minutes, Monterrey scored twice, Carlos Ochoa (twenty-first minute) and Jesús Arellano (twenty-fourth minute) and then Chivas tied the match again [...]

second leg tonight!

By: j | Comments No Comments

With Monterrey holding the decided advantage of a three goal lead after the first leg, tonight’s affair will pose some interesting tactical situations for Ricardo Lavolpe, particularly as you consider Humberto Suazo will be out because of the injury he sustained in the first match. Chupete has (obviously) been the major goal-scorer for the Rayados [...]

Highlights from last nights magical 4-1 victory over Chivas

May 15th, 2008

Pure genius!

By: j | Comments No Comments

It was pure genius last night as Monterrey defeated Chivas 4-1 on the strength of three goals by Jared Borgetti and another by Humberto Suazo. With a three goal advantage heading into the second leg of the series on Saturday, the Rayados are definitely in the driver seat.
As discussed this week, Monterrey came out with [...]

bring on Chivas!

By: j | Comments No Comments

Well here it is, the start of the Liguilla and Monterrey’s route to the Copa will go through Chivas.
After a week off, the team has been experimenting with a more offensive formation and there has been some rumbling of dissent between Ricardo Lavolpe and Humberto Suazo. Although the rumors have have come and gone quickly, [...]
